Samson Effect Newsletter- Jan 15, 2008

Hey all,

Welcome to this edition of The Samson Effect Newsletter. It has been a quiet time for the book since my last newsletter. However, the holidays are over and things are starting to pick back up. In fact, some interesting things have happened in the last few weeks, and I owe much of it to you. So, without further delay, on to the news.

New Milestone Reached
A week before Christmas, I told you that I needed just six more books to sell in order to earn my publisher’s Reader’s Choice award. Boy, did you come through for me. The preliminary numbers are out and you helped me sell enough to earn that honor by well over 100 books. In fact, I am now close to obtaining the last of the four goals I can receive from my publisher-The Star Program.

The Star Program will have the biggest impact on my book’s success nationally. When I achieve that honor, the publisher will start to invest in The Samson Effect by promoting it nationally. Perhaps the biggest thing that will happen is that all hurdles will be removed that are currently making it difficult for The Samson Effect to sit in every bookstore in the country.

The Samson Effect has earned the Editor’s Choice award, the Publisher’s Choice award, and is ready to receive the Reader’s Choice award. The Star program will make it a clean sweep for everything that it can earn from the publisher. If you have not bought your book yet, please scroll down for links that will take you to the place where you can pick up your copy today. Remember, The Samson Effect will make a great gift for your friends, coworkers, employees, and clients. Many people have mailed me a copy of their books so I can personally sign them. I would love to personalize your book to make it the perfect gift. Just shoot me an e-mail for mailing instructions.
Big News, Part 1
In December, I told you that some big things have been happening with The Samson Effect. Some things are still in the works and I am not permitted to spill the beans yet. However, one of my major goals was realized a few weeks ago. I am excited to announce that I have signed an agreement with one of the most prominent literary agents in the world: Frank Weimann of The Literary Group International is now working on finding a major publisher for The Samson Effect. His agency is known as the Home of the best Selling Authors and his experience is rivaled by no one. When he successfully finds a major publisher for my book, The Samson Effect will be off the market while the new publisher plans a new release. So, if you want the current edition of The Samson Effect, now is the time to act before a new deal is struck.

Author Of The Month Honors
I am humbled to announce that I have been chosen as the Author of the Month for February at Zimbooktu, an online bookstore and writing community. Just to let you know of the company I am in, among last year’s AOM were John Grisham, James Rollins, Jack DuBrul, and Paul Kemprecos. The owner of the site has invited you to visit anytime, but especially during the month of February. I will be on his forum answering questions from his visitors. I would love to see a great showing from you all there.
New Book Trailer
Please check out my new book trailer if you get a chance. You can find it on my website at the following link. Feel free to leave a comment on my website or on the YouTube or My Space page it is on.

Currently, I am highlighting two of my favorite authors, Michael Connelly and Patricia Cornwell. To listen to their interviews, visit my website here:

New Contest- Be In My Next Book
As I start to write the sequel to The Samson Effect, I am looking for a name for a character in my next book. The winner of the contest will have that character named after them and will get a signed copy of my next book. If you wish to enter, just visit my contest page.

Who knows, maybe something like this will be in my next book…

The cliff’s edge approached with deadly speed. Tony had milliseconds to make a decision, either choice most likely resulting in an unsavory death. Behind, the pack of rabid dogs charged at full gallop, foam streaking from their fang-bared lips. Ahead, a sheer drop of 500 feet. Tony had to decide now…

Good luck to all who enter. Be sure to let your friends know about the contest as well!

New Author Friends
Please be sure to check out my new author friends to see if they have written anything you may be interested in reading.

William Russeth- William writes a romantic adventure set in ancient Celtica called The Fires of Belenus. If you enjoy historical fiction, then check out this book.

Jo Gray- Tails From the Cat Basket is a collection of short stories about 4 crazy cats who own an Australian family. Meet Fatty, Lilah, Ming and Mactavish, and find out how they pass the time Down Under.

John Hanzl- Ok, if you enjoy action/adventure novels, then check out John’s new book, Out of Hell’s Kitchen. He’s with the same publisher I’m with and his book has also won its Editor’s Choice and Publisher’s Choice awards.

You can see all of my author friends at http://samsoneffect.com/AuthorFriends.html

Please keep an eye open for new authors I am adding to this list later in January once I can update my website.

New Samson Effect Book Trailer

Hey all,

You may have seen that authors creating “book trailers”, or videos for their books is the latest thing. The bestselling authors can create trailers that rival big-budget film trailers.

For the rest of us, we use the simple tools we have at our disposal and do what we can. Here is a shot at my video for The Samson Effect. Take a look at it and let me know what you think. It’s located on YouTube and My Space, so if you like it, by all means let everyone know about it.

Thank- and without further delay…

This link for the video on My Space

Or

This link for the video in You Tube.

If you don’t mind, let me know what you think. Thanks for your help and have a happy holiday!

Snowy Trip To Indy

Hey all,

Well, my trip to Indiana is over and what a trip it was! I got to take my twin boys to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum to see dinosaurs, trains, and fish and to play in the water and the sand. It is an amazing place for kids. At one point, Connor (20 months old) planted his feet, looked to the left and then the right, and you could see in his mind that he was overwhelmed and didn’t know which way to go because of all the things to do around him. He and his twin brother Landon, also saw snow for the first time. They even enjoyed throwing snowballs at Daddy! They also learned to say, “Cold” very well.

I also had people traveling from over 30 miles to attend my book signing, at one point selling five copies to one person (a record for a signing). But I think the highlight of the trip was in visiting my nephew’s 6th grade Social Studies class. Creekside Middle School in Carmel opened their doors and hearts to me as an invited speaker. The class is creating their own book so it was great for them to have a published author speaking to them, but not as great as it was for me. They are a sharp group of kids. And a special thanks to Deseree Becker, Tyler’s teacher, who was gracious enough to invite me into her class- and brave enough to ask me to stay for the next class. I hope she keeps me up to speed with the student’s stories. Maybe I can even talk her into letting me post them on my website and blog to share with you…

And I want to remind you to keep your eyes opened during the 1st and 2nd week in January. Sometime in that time frame, you will see some national news coming out about The Samson Effect. In fact, keep checking SamsonEffect.com for the latest news about the book. And if you haven’t bought that perfect gift for your family member, coworker or client, might I suggest the book that New York Best Selling author Clive Cussler calls a “first class thriller brimming with intrigue and adventure.” Thanks to all the supporters I’ve had already, I am just 6 books away from earning my publishers “Reader’s Choice” designation. I’d appreciate any help you can give in helping me achieve that goal this month.

Well, that’s it for now. You can keep up with all the news, contests and reviews on my website, SamsonEffect.com

Have a wonderful week!

Tony

What An Evening!

Hey all,

Well, the book signing at Berryhill went well, even though we had to compete with the Cowboys and Packers game. Actually, compete is a strong term. Were just made it part of the festivities.
I made some new friends and fans, especially a young girl name Taylor, who was with her brother and father for dinner. She and her brother were so polite and great, it alone made events like this successful. And guess what? Taylor has aspirations of being an author as well! Keep your eye out for her in the future.

And thanks to Sam, the owner of Berryhill, who proved to be a gracious host. He even kept a signed copy of the book to proudly display to his patrons. I tell you, this is definitely one of the fun things about being an author.

And on a different note, my lovely wife, Emily, surprised me with a party to celebrate my first book. And she did such a great job at keeping the secret, that when I walked into the room of well-wishers and everyone yelled “surprise!”, I felt a flush because I thought I must have forgotten about a party and who we were surprising. Well, it soon became apparent that I was the guest of honor. And want to see something real cool? Look at the cake she had done for me (with the help of a lot of other people, including her sisters Elaine, Sharon, her parents and mine):

See,. I told you it was cool!

Well, that’s all for now. Don’t forget my next signing coming up tomorrow (Saturday) at Henry’s Homemade Ice Cream. Check out my website for more info on that and on the signing at City Bank on December 6th.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Tony

Reviews For The Samson Effect Keep Coming

Hey all,

The reviews for The Samson Effect keep coming in and believe it or not, most are from people I have never met before (I am still pleading and reminding some of my friends who have good intentions, but bad memories, to post reviews).

But here are some new ones I thought I’d bring to your attention.
The Samson Effect Garners Positive Review in The Oklahoman

Oklahoma’s largest newspaper, The Oklahoman, ran a review of my fast-paced adventure, The Samson Effect. “Seldom has a thriller evoked as many emotions as a new novel by Tony Eldridge, The Samson Effect,” said the reviewer, “which takes the reader on a ride as perilous as a roller coaster.” Read More…

Online Review from BiblioHistoria

“I have been waiting for The Samson Effect to be completed since June when I read the first three chapters and pre-viewed it,” the reviewer writes. “Now at last I have the book, and have just finished reading it. It was everything I expected, and more. I stayed up reading it until after midnight because I could NOT put it down.” Read More…

(From Amazon.com and/or bn.com)

Kevin K. Watson (Amazon.com and BN.com)- 5 Stars

“A pulse-racing thriller adventure ride”

The Samson Effect, first novel by author Tony Eldridge is truly magnificent, captivating and thriller-rific.

An ancient guarded secret for centuries, sets the scene for intense reading with each turn of the page. Filled with mystery, suspense, passion, danger and lots of action-packed heart-pounding unexpected moments. A cast of characters portrayed at its’ best – you’ll certainly have a favorite, especially with some slapstick humor thrown in from time to time.

The storyline was brilliantly conveyed in half the length and time it takes to read most traditional novels, due to the well-written styles of the author. Will keep an eye out for any future novels.

The Samson Effect is a definite must have bookshelf addition and worth its ticket price if it ever reaches the big screen.

Casey Head (Amazon.com and BN.com)- 5 Stars
‘The Samson Effect’ by Tony Eldridge is a must-read! As soon as I began reading this book, I couldn’t put it down. Each chapter is filled with suspense, and the author manages to end each chapter in such a way that you have to read on to find out what happens. I expect this book to become a bestseller, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it becomes a motion picture. Look out Indiana Jones, here comes ‘The Samson Effect!’

Boyd A. King (Amazon.com and BN.com)- 5 Stars
When I got home from work on Monday, the Samson Effect had arrived, and once I started reading I simply could not put the book down. The first chapter pulled me into the action quickly and every subsequent chapter had me wondering how the deepening intrigue was going to be resolved.

This is more than an action adventure. My mind stretched beyond the fictional story to consider the broader context – from Biblical history to current events. The title hints at the Old Testament link. Modern-day Middle-East conflicts are effectively played out in individual relationships between the story’s characters.

And regarding the characters in the story, the bad guy is evil personified. But beyond that, even the protagonists struggle with conflicting priorities and alliances. The storyline twists and churns along the channels etched by the religious, romantic and familial relationships of the various characters. And like a rapid river ride, the reader is swept along, not knowing what the next bend holds in store.

I was constantly reminded of “Sahara” and “Indiana Jones” as I read the “Samson Effect.” I am sure Hollywood will be calling Mr. Eldridge soon. Like they say, the book is always better than the movie – so be one of the first to enjoy reading the Samson Effect.

Debora (BN.com)- 5 Stars
SAMSON EFFECT :Rollercoaster in Print

This book pulls you in from the first few pages and will not let you go. The action is fast and nonstop until the very end. The Author makes his characters very believable and complex without taking you away from the intense action. This book will keep you reading into the night because you want to know what happens. Besides being a great read, this book reminds the reader that the right answer is not always easy to find but you are compelled to be involved with their search. The Samson Effect offers you a way to look deeper into the lives of people struggling in the world today and to see the scars left on all sides. Tony Eldridge has given us a great book that has you following strong characters through fast paced action on their search for the ultimate answer. This is quite a first book. Samson Effect is not a very long book but it does not leave a thing out. I look forward to his future work.

Pam Y. (BN.com)- 5 Stars
Short and sweet… Read it, it’s a great story with enough twists to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Bye-Bye Thanksgiving, Hello Christmas

Well, Thanksgiving is over and it’s time to gear up for Christmas. Yep, my neighbors were putting out the festive red and green lights over the Thanksgiving holiday. As for the Eldridge household, we are taking it easy on the holiday decorations for another year. Don’t get me wrong; I love the holidays. But I have seen my neighbors really work up a sweat by putting up the lights. I have 19 month old twin boys, so I know that time is just around the corner when I will have to start to establish a new Eldridge Family tradition. As the boys grow, I will do it all for them.

As I give myself another year to plan about the perfect holiday decorations, I would love to hear what you are doing for the holidays. I could use all the ideas I can get. My wife has often accused me of going to extremes, so it may not surprise her to hear what has been on my mind. This year, almost no decorations; next year, a light show set to music. Have you seen these yards where the owners go all-out and choreograph their Christmas lights with music? If not, take a look at the Frisco Christmas Light yard… AWESOME!!!

Or, here’s a cool one. Have you rented a movie video and watched the Pixar THX sound intro? You know, where you hear the sound test from all the speakers in your home entertainment center? Well, here’s a house where the owners set their lights to that. I guess you just have to see it to know what I mean.

And for those who love Feliz Navidad, here is a cool one.

How about Alvin and the Chipmunks?

Snoopy?

Muppets- 12 Days of Christmas?

Jingle Bells?

And there are many more… Yep, going from no outside lights to something like this. I am curious to see what comments my wife, Emily, will post if she reads this.

Anyway, Happy Holidays everyone. And just because I have to do this, I want to remind you that my new book, The Samson Effect is out and it would make an awesome gift. Here is how to pick up a copy before Christmas:

Here are some of the things you can read about The Samson Effect that have been posted on Amazon.com, BN.com, and other places. If you have written a review online or in print that you wish to make me aware of, please send me an e-mail to tony@samoneffect.com. Now, on to the reviews…

From Edwin Crozier (Amazon.com and BN.com)- 5 Stars
Tony Eldridge is out of the starting gate and is definitely leading the pack. “The Samson Effect” is solid, entertaining, surprising and thrilling–in short, everything you want in a book you can’t put down.

When you open this book you are crossing the chasm from platform to the front seat of the roller coaster. By the end of the first chapter you have crested the first rise and begin the thrilling descent for an exciting ride with ups, downs, twists, turns and spirals that you aren’t expecting.

Doctors Hamilton and Seiff make a great team as they search to find the Samson Effect (the Lord’s Strength) without letting it fall into the wrong hands. But whose hands are the wrong ones? Eldridge keeps you guessing at everyone’s motives and wondering, will Hamilton really do the right thing and what is the right thing?

Order your copy today.

I can’t wait for the sequel.

Jo Gray (Author, BN.cm review)- 5 Stars
I received this book 48 hours ago & have had NO sleep until 8am this morning. This book is utterly riveting, fast paced, action packed & LOADED with intrigue. For a first novel, this is truly, truly brilliant. I look forward to hearing LOTS more from Tony Eldridge.

Don Curtis II (Amazon.com and BN.com)- 5 Stars
Hang on to your seat! The excitement begins in chapter one and it’s a non-stop ride through danger, political intrigue, romance and jubilation. Just when you think you can catch your breath, the next hill takes you deeper into the valley of the shadow of death. The author brings you up close and personal with biblical facts and intertwines them with a fictional story that leaves you wondering if this could really happen.

Archaeologist, Dr. Thomas Hamilton and his colleague, Michael Sieff, an Israeli linguist, are both in search of ancient manuscripts that describe a sacred plant that the Hebrew priests used in conjunction with God’s blessing whenever a “deliverer” was needed for Israel. Upon finding these documents they discover that the plant is not only real but also its location is described. Palestinian militants are in pursuit of the same in order to fulfill the promise of a global Jihad. There is also an ancient sect of Hebrew priests who are the protectors. All must be overcome in order to obtain The Sampson Effect, a plant extract capable of endowing super human strength upon its consumer. World domination is at stake. The reader learns about the history of the nation of Israel and its many deliverers as the author superimposes these ancient facts, along with the fictional legend of The Sampson Effect, upon the backdrop of the present day political climate in the harsh and unforgiving environs of the Middle East.

This is the author’s first novel. I found myself wanting a little more in the way of character development. I really liked the characters, but I felt they needed to be brought out more. I wanted to know what really motivates them besides the obvious. More insight into their psyche would be helpful. The author’s development of the landscape setting was also rather basic. As the reader I want to feel as though I have to wipe the sweat off my brow, in the heat of the pounding rays of the sun. Though I felt these attributes of the novel were adequate, I know that it would be a much better piece of literature if these areas were improved.

The story is thrilling and adventurous. In many ways I guess I just wanted it to go on longer. By the time I got to the end, I couldn’t believe it was over. Without neglecting his story line, the author leaves you open for what could be a series of stories. If that is his intention, I can’t wait for the next story. This could easily be adapted for the screen and, in my opinion would make a blockbuster motion picture!

This book is a ‘must read.’

From C. Larson (Amazon.com and BN.com)- 5 Stars

If you like reading Clive Cussler and Dan Brown, I suggest you buy The Samson Effect so you can say you’ve been one of the first people to read Tony Eldridge’s outstanding book.

By the end of Chapter 1, I was in the book “hook, line and sinker.” Dr. Thomas Hamilton and his friend, Michael Sieff are absolutely fascinating characters, as are the rest of the “cast”. However, many are actually not who you believe they are – at one point I started to wonder if the lead character was who I thought he was! The one true character of “evil” is wonderfully written and I could well imagine his madness.

I never wanted to put the book down because is it packed with action, intrigue, suspense, rivalry and love. (I appreciated the fact that the love interests in the book, were kept subtle and sweet and not explicitly defined.) Just when I thought I had the story line figured out “BAM,” I did not! Elbow macaroni does not have as many twists as The Samson Effect and there are several twists that caused me to I catch my breath and then I would laugh out loud because I certainly had not seen “that” coming. This is a very readable book by a new author, it is neither too long, nor too short – I’d call it perfect – take a chance on The Samson Effect!

4. Contest Winners

I do want to take the time to thank everyone who signed up for the newsletter. And just because this contest is over, don’t think the value of being a subscriber is over. You will still get timely news on the Samson Effect, upcoming contests details, and much more.

5. The Release Of Sudden Death

Earlier, I introduced you to Michael Balkind and his new novel, Sudden Death.

Michael Balkind- Do you love suspense? Golf? Then you need to read Michael’s new book, Sudden Death. It is now out. Click on his name for info on ordering his book and for activities surrounding his book launch. He has some pretty impressive author quotes. Check these out: “You like golf, you like murder mysteries – then Sudden Death is your book!” James Patterson, and “Pure fun, pure intrigue. The action never stops till a fascinating climax.” Clive Cussler

6. Parting Words

Thanks again to everyone for all you support. Remember, with the holiday season upon us, there is no better gift to give your friends, family, employees or favorite clients than an autographed copy of the Samson Effect made out especially to them. I would love to help you with this wonderful gift. Order your copy today to make sure I have time to sign the books for you. And feel free to bring in all books you have already purchased to any of my events for me to sign. Keep checking in with the website for my most current calendar schedule.

Best Wishes,

Tony Eldridge

PS: I have a favor to ask you. Can you please share my book’s website with others you know who may be interested in the book? Word of mouth by friends, family, and neighbors is the most powerful tool a new, unknown author has. It can literally help their book to break out. If you can share this with people you know, I would appreciate it.
